How fast does it go?
Due to its light weight construction and excellent planing ability, the
25hp outboard pushes the CraigCat along at speeds of 40~50kph depending
on load and conditions.
What is the CraigCat
made from?
The pontoons are high grade UV stable seamless roto-moulded polyethylene,
injected with urethane foam. The deck is one-piece hand-laid
fiberglass
with a premium Marine Tech wood core. All fittings are stainless,
marine grade aluminum or nylon.
What are the boat’s
specifications?
Length (3.54m), Beam (1.62m), Boat weight (~115kg), Mercury 25E motor
weight (52kg), Seating capacity (2 adults), Load Capacity (340kg
- motor, passengers and gear), Speed (up to 50kph).
How much fuel does it
use?
The 25hp models use around 4~5 liters of fuel per hour of normal
operation. The 25 liter tank will normally last for 5~6 hours.
What is the maximum
engine rating?
25hp (or 19kW) is the maximum approved engine rating.
Can the CraigCat take
more than 2 people?
The maximum rating for outboard models is 2 persons, but you can seat up
to four persons on the electric-powered models.
How long does it take
from order to delivery?
We try to hold stock in Dominican Republic for the standard models (CraigCat
Classic and E2 2-stroke models). Otherwise, the lead time for delivery
is 2~4 weeks from the USA.
How does the boat
perform in chop and wake?
The CraigCat is extremely buoyant and always goes over waves rather than
through them. As with any boat, you will need to reduce speed in rough
conditions to stay on the water and limit jumping.
Can the boat tip over
and/or sink?
Under normal conditions and with sensible use, there is no possibility
of the CraigCat tipping. The pontoons are urethane filled which makes
the boat literally unsinkable.
Can the boat nosedive
into a large swell or chop?
The CraigCat is extremely buoyant, and the front of the pontoons travel
above the water (as the back of the boat carries all the load). This
means the boat will never nosedive into waves or chop.
How wet do you get
driving it?
In good conditions and with normal driving, you should remain dry,
except for very minor splashing. During very choppy conditions or
during hard turns you should be prepared to get a little wet.
How much water does the
boat draw?
The boat itself has a very shallow draft – only 10~15cm even when
stationary. When moving, the boat travels on top of the water, even at
very low speeds. The motor and propeller depth is approximately
40~45cm.
What outboard motors
are available?
The standard motor is the short shaft Mercury 25E two-stroke electric
start. The CraigCat is also available with a short shaft Yamaha 25hp
4-stroke electric start, or a 5hp Mercury 4-stroke (tiller control).
Can I get the CraigCat
with an electric motor?
Yes, you can get a Motorguide 36lb thrust motor, and also a 50lb thrust
motor.
Does the boat have (or
need) seat belts?
No – Seat belts are not fitted and are not recommended. As the boat
always banks into corners, you never feel like you will fall out of the
bucket seats.
How do you steer it?
The centre-mounted stick steering unit is linked by cable to the motor.
The stick is upright to go straight ahead, or you simply push the lever
forward to turn right, or pull it back to turn left.
Why isn’t the CraigCat
defined as a PWC (personal water craft)?
The definition of a PWC states that the driver must either stand, kneel,
or sit astride the vessel.
Can you buy the boat
only (without the motor)?
No, motors are imported along with the boats as a package, and boats
cannot be purchased separately.
How does the boat
perform with only one person aboard?
The CraigCat is designed for, and performs best with, 2 people aboard.
However it is extremely stable and buoyant, so still has excellent
balance with one person at normal speed.
Is this a brand new
product?
No. the CraigCat has been available in the USA for many years, but has
only recently been released in the Caribbean market, at the beautiful
golden cost of Dominican Republic.
